How to Maintain Canon Cartridges – Cleaning & Replacing Units
A few tips are shared below regarding the usage and maintenance of Canon Cartridges.
Cleaning the Print Heads
In most instances, you will simply need to open the access lid and wait for the carriers to stop moving. Once the carriers stop, remove the cartridges. Using a soft dry cloth, remove residue from the contact points at the back of the cartridges. Once done, wipe the rest of the cartridge units clean. Always wipe from the top to the bottom to prevent dust and debris from being wiped into the cartridges. Reinstall the particular units.
Replacement
Ensure that the work surface is protected against possible spillage from the units. Place paper towels or newspapers around the printer. Next, remove the new units from the packaging and place the units on the towels or paper.
Remove the old cartridges before you remove the protective film from the contact points. The printer must be on if you want to remove the units. Open the access lid and lift the small lever of the ink holder. Remove the unit from holder and place the used ones on the towel.
Remove the protective film from the contact points and place the units in the holders. You will have to gently push the units into the empty slots with the labels facing you. Once the units have popped into place you can push the levers back and close the access lid. Clean any residue from your hands. The printer is now ready to do a test print.
General Tips
Leave the empty cartridges in the slots until you are ready to replace them. Never print with empty cartridges as such can burn the print heads. Once you have taken out the old cartridges, store them with the contact points showing upwards to prevent leakage.
